300 x 9
As of today, each of the 9 regulars in the Angels lineup is hitting .300 or over. They are the only team in the majors that can make that claim, by a long shot. No other team has more than 3.
The last time a team’s entire lineup hit .300 (with 200 abs or more), according to the Elias Sports Bureau, was 1930 – the St. Louis Cardinals and New York Giants.
The Angels .291 team average leads the majors by 13 points over the Yankees, and they are neck and neck with the Yankees for the lead in OBP.
This could likely be the most patient, most impressive Angel offense ever, and credit is overdue for much maligned hitting coach Mickey Hatcher. Whether Hatcher’s teachings have finally sunk in, or the team has benefitted from the example of OBP machine Bobby Abreu (and Mark Teixiera last season), the offense is potent.
