Staycation
I took the week off to spend with my daughter Kyle before she heads off to her freshman year at NYU. We talked about going away, but decided instead to stay in town and find activities in L.A. that we hadn’t done… or hadn’t done in a long time.
Monday we went to Universal Studios. Okay…we’ve done that before, and fairly recently… but hadn’t done the Simpsons ride. Best part of the day happened right as we entered the park; the amusement park version of Doc Brown from Back to the Future was greeting people on a Segway… and said hello to a 20-something, attractive lady who did not return the greeting… to which he responded under his breath (which I was not meant to hear), “bitch”. Welcome to Universal Studios!
Tuesday was a movie.. not just any movie day… but an Arclight day. Seems sort of silly to buy $12 reserved seats for an early Tuesday matinee of Paper Hearts, but we wanted the full Arclight experience (including freshly popped caramel corn). We hung around for a second movie (Funny People) … and by hung around, I mean paid another $12 each; what kind of a parental example would I be setting otherwise.
Wednesday was Griffith Observatory day… first time there since it reopened. There wasn’t much to see aside from a beautiful view and a Planetarium show (which I believe I dozed off for at least half of)…. and I don’t think we were there for more than 2 hours.
Thursday – the Getty. Another great view. Another 2 hour activity.
Friday – Movie Day #2… this time, a local and less expensive matinee. Time Traveler’s Wife to begin, and then Mary joined us for lunch and the afternoon matinee, Julie & Julia, which I liked a lot more than I thought I would.
Saturday and Sunday…watching seasons one and two of Mad Men.
